The Little Tug Boat Crew
Since opening our doors in 1990, The Little Tug Boat has gained a reputation for providing a home from home environment for children. With the expertise, dedication and love of our wonderful long standing crew, led by manager Cindy, we strive to give every child the best start in their early years.
Every member of our crew are qualified to a minimum Level 3, and while we are proud to provide practical training placements for local childcare students, we do not use students in our ratios.
Meet Cindy, our Tug Boat Manager
Hello, my name is Cindy and I am the manager at The Little Tug Boat Nursery.
I have been working in education since 2001 and have a Degree in Early Years. I have been part of the Tug Boat family since 2005, starting out in the rooms and eventually having the privilege of managing and leading the Crew in our beautiful Nursery.
As a mother of two, I know how special the Early Years are and how important it is that every child is given the best opportunity to play, learn and grow in a warm and supportive environment. I strongly believe in valuing each child and encouraging them to believe in themselves. We strive to support the children to become confident and independent individuals who have a passion for exploring and learning through fun and engaging activities. Thanks to the small groups in each room and the excellent crew we have at Tug Boat, I feel that we are able to achieve this and to make every family feel welcomed and supported.
Thank you for taking the time to look around our website. Please fell free to call or send me an email and we can arrange for you to come see our lovely Crew in action.
Meet Lisa, our Deputy Manager
So where to start…I’ve been surrounded by people with childcare backgrounds all my life. My gran use to be a primary teacher in Fulham; helping my understanding of educating and supporting children, she was very influential in my early stages of working in nurseries. My other gran worked for social services, giving me an insight into children who have additional needs. And my mum works in the local library and is in charge of the under five sessions.
I was given the chance to put all this knowledge into practice when I was asked to become a full time member of staff at the Little Tug Boat in 2001. Here I gained more experience and a better knowledge of childcare and completed my NVQ Level 3. I remained part of the Tug Boat family for 7 years before going traveling and then settling in Cornwall to do a degree in marine science. I later returned to London, gaining some experience in a newly opened Nursery and in early 2016, I returned to Tug Boat as Deputy Manager and the rest is history….
The ethos and home away from home environment is one of the reasons I wanted to return,; nowhere else I have been has had the same values that cherish myself as a person or an educator. I have great passion in my work and not only do I like teaching children but love passing over my knowledge to others and help them grow in the way others have helped me.
Meet Jorge, our Early Years Teacher (EYT)
Hello, I am Jorge from Spain. I have always had a tremendous passion for children and education. When I finished my Early Years Education Degree, I started working as an Early Years Teacher and realised this is the job of my life! Children absorb everything aroudn them and I love the fact that we have to give our 100% every day.
As an Early Years Teacher, my role is to support, care and understand the needs of every child. Children can learn literacy not only from paper, but from every single one of their areas of learning…and this is what I focus on with all my ability. I also support the whole Tug Boat Crew in delivering the curriculum with creativity and inspiration.
Because of my ethos, I have taken many courses to support my teaching being of the highest standards. I’m constantly studying and practising new methodologies, trying and testing the best way to teach and in turn, the most effective ways for children to learn.
