Days At Tug Boat
Established almost 30 years ago, our large Victorian house is a beautiful Nursery with three large classrooms and garden. At the Little Tug Boat, we are committed to continuously invest in both our wonderful team and their training, alongside resources and refurbishments to ensure we consistently deliver an Outstanding Curriculum.
First Mates “Baby” Room
Our First Mates Room is home to nine babies, from the ages of three months to two years. Cared for by three members of the Tug Boat crew, this bright and airy room is comprised of two large play areas, full of a wide variety of educational toys, books, puzzles, sensory materials and soft play to stimulate the children’s senses. Each day is filled with carefully thought out activities including sensory exploration and messy play to help support curiosity in learning and stimulating little minds.
For new children starting with us, we focus on building consistency and stability between home and nursery to ensure a smooth transition for the whole family, and a solid foundation for a wonderful relationship to begin between our family and yours. Your child will also have a Key Person who is responsible for their individual weekly planning and next steps, and is always on hand to provide advice regarding all aspects of your child’s learning and development.
Captains “Toddler” Room
The Captains Room is fun, colourful and always full of laughter with up to twelve children, aged two to three years, and three members of the Tug Boat crew. In the Captains room, we have a particular focus on allowing the children to lead their own learning using construction, role play, small world play, musical instruments and natural resources. We also introduce numbers, colours and letters to the children in a fun and engaging way. Our Captains also benefit from having direct access in to our large, beautiful garden so we can encourage free-flow between the indoors and outdoors.
Your child’s key person will be responsible for carrying out carefully planned activities to help them further their learning, as well as build on their social and emotional development. Of primary importance is a strong partnership with parents to ensure a smooth transition, either as a new starter or in moving up from the First Mates room. We know that parents are a child’s first educator so strive to provide you with ideas for home, alongside advice and guidance around toilet training and behaviour management.
Admirals “Pre-School” Room
Upstairs, you will find the Admirals room for our pre-schoolers. In this room, we have sixteen children, aged three to five years with two members of the Tug Boat crew. Our Early Years Teacher supports the children in their ever growing knowledge and curiosity to prepare them for their next adventure in school. We fulfil this by instilling confidence, independence and encouraging exploration through their play. We work alongside parents to get their child school ready by suggesting activities to help with phonics and early reading and writing, alongside developing their personal, social and emotional development.
We have strong relationships with a variety of schools in South West London and are happy to provide advice and support on choosing the right school for your child.
Our Curriculum
Our diverse Curriculum is rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and inspired by other philosophies
including Montessori and Forest School.
